On a flight from New York to Cairo there was a man in Muslim dress who was in the airplane bathroom for a long time praying. There was an American mother waiting with her child who had to go to the bathroom very bad, for a long time. She knocked on the door asking him to please hurry up. When he came out he seemed offended that she was impatient. Both were angry. What does Islam say about making others wait while Muslims perform prayers or other rituals? Also there was lots of water everywhere in the bathroom, on the mirror, on the floor, on the toilet, on the wall. Are Islamic ablutions more important than being considerate?

  1. First, prayer in the bathroom is completely wrong. In Islam you must pray in a clean place with clean clothes. But maybe you mean ablutions: the step before praying and that takes just 1-3 minutes. I think it is more helpful if you know that: the time of prayer in Islam can be any time during a 2-4 hour period. Each prayer has a different time and Muslim can pray all prayers at any time. That means of course you cannot make other people wait to use the bathroom while doing ablutions and prayer because there is a lot of time for ablutions and prayer, why do you need to make others wait? In addition, making others suffer is a very bad thing in Islam. But I want to ask you a question, why did you suppose that he make thing connected with Islam? Why didnt you suppose he was tired or really needed the bathroom while others wait?

  2. This question is not real because prayer is not permissible in the bathroom, and whether each person wearing the dress of the Muslims is a Muslim?

  3. Thank your for your comment Al Yamany. I am not sure what you mean by: "the question is not real" this is a true story. The question says "prayer or other rituals," the other ritual is most likely ablutions or "Wudhu," not prayer in the bathroom. I cannot be sure that the person is a Muslim but the person was wearing Muslim dress and I know that Muslims wash before prayer so I assumed. Do you think this evidence is not sufficient? Are you suggesting that the person was not a Muslim? Why would you think that? Are there many non-Muslims who wear Muslim dress?
You asked about the relation to Islam, I have also seen water everywhere in bathrooms in Egypt after people performed ablutions (Wudhu) before prayer many times and I understand that Wudhu is part of Islam.
Why did you write that I "must think before I speak about Islam"?
